I've used this book with my students and they love it. Great information and easy to understand. I bought some to give away to my senior students.
Who would have guessed that such a time-honored practice such as yoga would become so mainstream in our society today? Many profess to have the knowledge and wherewithal to provide a solid foundation of basics, but it is a gift to find someone who truly understands and can instruct others. In a word you have found that gift in Daniela Simina's book. If you have not had the pleasure to experience her instruction first hand, you can at least now have the next best thing. I highly recommend "Anychair Yoga"! The author, Daniela Simina, taught
me how to modify many yoga poses to meet my medical needs, including
Degenerative Myopia and Vertigo, using a chair and other props, even
before the book came out. So, I have lived the book and know how
valuable and practical it is.
Don't forget about the chapters on "Breathing Practice" and
"Guided Relaxation". I started by re-learning how to breath and relax.
Though easy, quick, and simple, by incorporating them in my daily
practice, they became subtly powerful and wonderfully addictive.
"Anychair Yoga" is written clearly and concisely, with helpful
photos for every step. Though the book is simple to follow and
understand, it is based on the author's deep and multifaceted
background and experience. I am a proud beneficiary of the author's
expertise in Yoga, Energy Healing, Physiology and Nutrition. She
helped me to address degenerative problems that puzzled my doctors and
left me hopeless. I learned how to unlock self-healing processes in my
own body and the results speak for themselves. Use this book and
change your life!
As a Nurse Practitioner working with individuals who are coping with very serious chronic illnesses both physical and mental, this book offered another tool for enticing my patients to give health a chance. Every year I teach a class on relaxation exercises and stress management techniques. This year I used "Anychair Yoga" to teach chair yoga. This book provides easy instructions and pictures tell the rest. I developed four classes and began each class with sounds from the ocean or nature to slow their breathing. I selected about eight exercises to thoroughly go over with them and ended the class with a guided healing meditation. Each class I added a few more exercises until finally at the end of the month we went through most of the exercises featured in the "Anychair Yoga" book smoothly. Participation was tenuous at first but by the fourth session more than two thirds of a group of seventeen were participating in many of the exercises. Having experienced this class for myself, I endorse this book and the DVD version is a great companion.
On the last class one of the nurses from the mental health clinic heard about the class and asked if she could observe. SURE. She loved it and wants to do chair yoga for her group. I ordered another book to give to her and I ordered the DVD too. I would love to introduce more clinicians to this wonderful teaching. I think it would be worthwhile to develop some sort of certification program for this.
Originally, I purchased this book for my students suffering from limited motion. It has a standard lesson plan with variations making it a great tool for teaching. I also like the photographs that accompany each pose. What I had not considered is the value of this book for people who are stuck behind desks all day. What a bonanza! Using these exercises at work will be revolutionary!
Excuses be gone! With this book, you can enjoy your yoga practice any where at any time. Daniela Simina provides photos and detailed instructions for each pose. If you think chair yoga is only for those with limited mobility, think again. There are poses for practices at any level. If I am traveling or can't get to my favorite yoga class, this book is a great tool. I also bought a copy for my 75 year old mother who has never done yoga. The instructions are simple, and she has found poses which have helped improve her mobility.
Anychair Yoga has helped me tremendously. I just wish I knew about this amazing and convenient technique before I had two discs removed from my neck. As an administrative assistant in a fast-paced environment, there are times where you need a break but aren’t able to get away for a walk or a stretch. Anychair Yoga introduces a unique way to exercise while you work.
Some of my favorite exercises for my neck and back are Neck, Neck Side Stretch, Head Tilt (Giraffe), Neck rolls, Cat tuck and Cat lift, Shoulder shrugs and presses, Twists, Side bending, and Seated forward fold. These simple stretches have saved my life and my career! I was contemplating leaving my job and going on disability. I am so thankful for Anychair Yoga!
