I read such glowing reviews of this book that I bought it when my library didn't order one, but I don't know why it was so admired. I mean, it's ok. It's out of print now, I think. I hope it becomes valuable. I'm willing to sell.

I was quite tempted to buy this book as a gift for my brother. "A Facetious Lens" might be an accurate title. I have decided not to buy because of the use of the word "sarcastic". I am surprised that the publisher agreed to use the word "sarcastic". The definition of sarcasm is "harsh or bitter derision or irony" or "a sharply ironical taunt; sneering or cutting remark".
The origin of the word literally means "to tear flesh". It is sad that so many people misuse it.
I'll bet the photos and stories are wonderful and am sorry to miss it.
Great storytelling with over 250 pages of every creature imaginable. A veritable Noah's Ark, with sarcasm , of course. A must have coffee table book, water resistant too(sarcasm)
Come along with Amy and Richard Lynn on a wildlife adventure, covering 40 countries, and experience the animal kingdom through their eyes You will see, and learn about, animals from around the globe. Most of the animals you will recognize, some you will not, and there will probably be a few that you hope to never get up close and personal with. (For me it is the capybara. I hate rodents, and this is a big one.) You will be amazed at the number of unique animals in the book, and you will be entertained by the "Sarcastic" commentary from the authors. Some will be inspired to pick up their cameras and head off on a photographic journey of their own. Others will want to drop a note of thanks to Richard and Amy because they don't have to take 3 planes, a car, and a boat to get a picture of an Alaskan brown bear eating a salmon. (to each their own)

The Sarcastic Lens is a fitting tribute to the animals pictured in it, and an entertaining journey for those who read it.

Favorite picture "The Frosty Bison" found on page 87.

This book is a beautifully photographed and well-documented journey with the authors through their world travels over several years. They offer delightful documentation to remote regions around the globe to find and photograph the animals endemic to that region. The photography creates a visual feast of the animals. The narratives provide insightful observations about their adventure visiting each area along with finding these beautiful animals in their native environment. Equally wonderful, however, was the feast my 5-year old grandchildren have received from this book. For two years, they have requested one of the animal "stories" as one of their bedtime stories read by their parents. While the narratives require adult interpretation for children, they love what they are exploring as discussion ensues about the animals, their natural habitat and survival along with the geography and location of the country. As this beautiful book offers insights about the animal kingdom in different regions of the world, it becomes a huge educational opportunity for adults and children alike. It deserves 5 stars in my humble opinion.
